The Kind of Cotswolds Break That Leaves You Properly Rested

It’s a straightforward thing to get right, really. A comfortable room. A good breakfast. Somewhere nice to sit outside. A meal in the evening that’s worth looking forward to. Countryside on the doorstep. Our team will recommend a walk without handing you a laminated sheet.

At Pettifers we are a friendly, family-run hotel in the village of Crudwell, on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, that does the basics well and doesn’t make a fuss about it.

A few days here

There’s no particular formula for a Pettifers break. Most of our guests find their own version of it pretty quickly. A morning walk, a day out to Westonbirt or a jaunt around the Cotswold Lakes, back to the hotel for a drink in the Snug, dinner at Asha Indian Kitchen, repeat as needed until properly rested.

The walled gardens and terrace are a lovely place to sit outside and do nothing much. The croquet pitch goes up in summer. The bar is well stocked, the coffee’s good, and nobody’s rushing you anywhere.

The food

Breakfast runs until 10:30am on summer weekends, which means the morning is yours. A full cooked breakfast in the Stoneroom sets things up properly before a day out, or before a slow morning that stays close to the hotel.

Evenings are Asha Indian Kitchen, which guests tend to mention by name when they leave reviews. Chef Parvez cooks from a menu that’s built around his own cooking rather than a standard Indian restaurant format. Dishes like Achari Masala, Shashlik Masala and the Plazza, served 6 days a week from 5pm. It’s the kind of food that makes you glad you didn’t drive somewhere else for dinner.

Slower Summer in the Southern Cotswolds

A Slower Summer in the Southern Cotswolds

The Northern Cotswolds gets most of the attention. Bourton-on-the-Water car parks in July. The Chipping Campden tour-group shuffle Bibury-blocked. Beautiful places, genuinely, but not especially restful when the season is
