Some of our favourite gardens on the doorstep
We are fortunate to have so many wonderful gardens near to us here. They encompass many different styles, from formal, to landscaped parklands (please check out our Capability Brown guide if this is your thing), to Rocco, you should be able to find something to suit anyone with green fingers.
Malmesbury Abbey House Gardens (4.2 miles from hotel)
With 1300 years of history, the first king of England buried somewhere in the garden Abbey House is a spectacular 5 acre garden not to be missed. Featured on many TV programs, and Alan Titchmarsh even named it his favourite garden in the UK.
Highgrove Gardens Pre-booked tickets only (6.2 miles)
The wonderful (organic) gardens created by Price Charles for his home just outside Tetbury are open by pre booking only. A wonderful wildflower meadow and kitchen garden form key parts, as well as huge range of ornaments sent as gifts from all corners of the world.
Painswick Rococo Garden - (19 miles)
The country's sole surviving rococo garden. A flamboyant pleasure garden with stunning framed views of the surrounding countryside and fanciful garden buildings. Has to be seen to be believed.
Cricklade North Meadow - seasonal (10 miles)
An ancient nature reserve & site of special scientific interest, famous for having the UKs largest population of the rare Snakes Head Fritillaries.
Corsham Court - seasonal (16.7 miles from hotel)
This majestic house belonged to 2 of Henry the VIII's wives, before Lancelot Brown redesigned the gardens and added a wing to the house. Be sure to also view the art collection when you visit.
Bowood House and Gardens - seasonal (18 miles from hotel)
Not to be missed, a real treat for all the family. The gardens are stunning and span over 100 acres, hiding an adventure playground within. The house and grounds are very impressive - a great day out for all.
Berkeley Castle (seasonal) (20 miles from hotel)
A beautiful grade 1 castle from the 11th century, the castles ownership has remained largely with the Berkeley family. This impressive structure is rich with history, including allegedly being the site of King Edward II's Murder.
Dyrham Park House and Gardens (seasonal) (20.9 miles)
The set of the film 'The Remains Of The Day' this 17th century mansion and deer park is housed in 274 acres. It offers expansive gardens, woodlands and lakes.
Sudeley Castle - seasonal (29 miles from hotel)
This grade 1 listed building is still a residence, open to the public on certain dates. Be sure to check the website before your visit to see opening days and times.
Owlpen Manor Estate - seasonal (13 miles)
Often called one of most romantic places in England, and when you visit you'll see why! Set in a valley the estate offers a manor, gardens, cottages, church and a restaurant.
